2004 Golf Tournament Raises Funds for Local Advocacy Group

American Chamber of Commerce in Russia's 7th Annual Golf Tournament (2004)

The four-man team from Delta Air Lines one-upped the competition and avenged its 2003 second place finish by claiming top honors during the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia's 7th Annual Golf Tournament held Friday, Aug. 6, 2004.

Finishing a full point behind was the team from Intelorg Worldwide Movers, followed closely 0.15 of a point behind by Commonwealth Resources in third place.

The best gross score was posted by the team from Claritin, dethroning ROL, which had taken home the prize the past two years.

Twenty-five teams participated in the day-long tournament held under mostly clear skies at the Le Meridien Moscow Country Club, while individuals also competed on various course holes for prizes donated by Delta Air Lines, Rostik Restaurants, Sheraton Palace Hotel and Starwood Hotels and Resorts.

Through the sale of  mulligans, the event raised $3,700 for Perspektiva (http://www.perspektiva-inva.ru), a local charity working with the disabled. "We were honored to have this chance to raise money for our work to promote independence and an improved quality of life for disabled people in Russia," Yulia Simonova of Perspektiva said. "These funds will allow us to organize more seminars for young disabled people and their parents about their rights to a good education and job, as well as to print and distribute more manuals and how to guides.  This will help us a great deal as we get ready to hold our Second International Disability Awareness Film Festival in November."

The Chamber offers its special thanks to Golf Committee Chairman Jim Balaschak in organizing the event. Other teams participating in the tournament represented the following companies: Alcan, BMW, Bolshevik, Cargill, Chevron Texaco, Davidoff Café, DeGolyer and MacNaughton, Deloitte & Touche, DHL (two teams), Ernst & Young, Intermark, M-I SWACO (two teams), ROL, Shell, Sheraton, Steel Structures, Stiles & Riabokobylko, TNK-BP and Yukos.
